Roslyn Harbor House

Set on a waterfront property in Roslyn Harbor, this new residence was designed to respond directly to its steeply sloping site. The architecture is carefully integrated into the hillside, allowing the home to feel as though it grows naturally from the landscape. Stepped volumes define the composition, providing both a strong architectural rhythm and opportunities to maximize views toward the harbor.

A refined material palette reinforces the home’s connection to its setting. The lower level is clad in locally sourced natural stone, grounding the structure into the slope, while the upper volumes are wrapped in dark-stained Accoya, accented with blackened steel and Richlite panels. Large expanses of glass open the interiors to natural light and frame views of the water and surrounding trees.

At the center of the plan, a glass-enclosed courtyard brings daylight deep into the home and introduces a specimen tree as a focal point for the interior. This quiet outdoor room becomes a central organizing element, reinforcing the relationship between house and landscape. The entry sequence is defined by a floating canopy and a custom metal mesh screen wall, creating a subtle but distinct threshold. Together, these elements establish a modern yet understated presence, setting the tone for the home beyond.
